CENTRAL SCHOOL
CEREMONY THIS AFTERNOON MEMORABLE OCCASION. COMPLETION OF EXTENSIVE RENOVATIONS. The completion of the remodelling of the Masterton Central School was celebrated this afternoon at a gathering of parents, pupils, teachers and others. There was a large attendance. The principal speaker was the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, Minister of Education. Other speakers were the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan: the member for the district. Mr J. Robertson; the chairman of the Wellington Education Board, Mr W. V. Dyer; and the chairman of the Central School Committee, Mr J. E. MeV. Calwell. Several items were given by the children, including the band and a demonstration of drill by Standard 3 girls. The school was later opened for inspection, the display of children's work in the Assembly Hall attracting much attention.
PUPILS’ WORK FINE VARIETY OF ARTICLES. The excellent handcraft work carried out by the pupils of Masterton Central School was displayed in the Assembly Hall today. Visitors generally were greatly Impressed with the splendid array of work of a varied nature. Prominent among the work of the older pupils were some attractive articles made with brass and pewter, not to mention trays, baskets, stools, garments, etc. Many other cleverlydesigned and useful goods were on display, including toys, belts and a very fine mat. Drawing and design were well represented and a batch of lino cuts was the centre of interest. The work as a whole reflected great credit on the pupils and their teachers.
