AIR RAIDING
LATEST ENEMY ATTACKS ON BRITAIN EXTENSIVE NIGHT BOMBING. FIVE NAZIS PLANES SHOT DOWN. .An A : r Ministry and Ministry o£ Home Security communique transmitted by the 8.8. C. states that several small forces of enemy aircraft crossed the south-east coast of England yesterday. A few bombs were dropped, mainly in Southern England. Five enemy aircraft, were shot down, during the day. Two British planes were lost, but both pilots are safe. It is now known that another British fighter was lost on Wednesday, but the pilot is safe. London had three air raids yesterday. German planes operated also in the vicinity of Liverpool and in south-west England. Thursday night’s raids were on an extensive scale. Liverpool and towns in north-west. Midlands and south-west of England were all attacked. Anti-aircraft, defences were extremely active in all these areas and although a large number of bombs was dropped, the damage was not as extensive as might have been expected considering the number of planes taking part in the raids.
FIRES IN LIVERPOOL
DEALT WITH QUICKLY BY BRIGADES. CASUALTIES NOT VERY HEAVY. LONDON, November 29. German raiders were over many parts of Britain last night. The heaviest attacks were in the northwest. Liverpool had a raid lasting several hours. It was one of the biggest raids the city had experienced. The chief damage was from the high-explosive and oil bombs that were dropped was to houses and commercial property. Several fires were started, some being serious, but they were quickly put out by the fire brigades. There were casualties in Liverpool. Some occurred when an explosive bomb fell near a public shelter. The casualties, however, were not heavy in relation to the size of the raid. Penzance. Cornwall, was also bombed. London had a comparatively quiet night, and the “raiders passed" was sounded several hours before dawn.
