JUTLAND AS BASE

FOR INVASION OF BRITAIN BELIEF ENTERTAINED BY DANES. ACUTE HARDSHIPS UNDER NAZI RULE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, November 27. The Lisbon, correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” reports that travellers from Denmark state that Danes believe the Germans to be planning to use Jutland as a springboard for invading Britain. Large forces recently went there. The food shortage in Denmark is growing serious, and farmers are facing ruin and are forced to kill their live stock. Only doctors and a privileged few are allowed to use petrol, and bicycle tyres are unobtainable. The Germans are buying all kinds of easily transportable goods with worthless marks. The Danes are boycotting their masters, never speaking to Germans except when absolutely necessary, the correspondent adds. Shopkeepers profess ignorance of German, often saying they understand only English and thereby forcing the German customers to speak English if they wish to be served. The Germans have not taken strong measures against listening to foreign broadcasts and almost every household listens to the Danish news bulletins of the 8.8. C. The British Ministry of Economic Warfare reports that 50,000 Dutch workers have already gone to Germany and the number is steadily increasing. The latest indications of German plundering include large-scale slaughtering of hens, which are reduced from 28,000,000 to 6,000,000. The German-controlled Dutch radio says that the egg is an unnecessary breakfast luxury and adds that it would be healthier if people gave up tea and coffee.
