PLANE TAKING CHIAPPE TO SYRIA ACCORDING TO SWISS REPORT. FORMER NOTORIOUS POLICE CHIEF. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) ZURICH. November 27. It is reliably reported that the plane carrying M. Chiappe to Syria was shot down over the northern Mediterranean. M. Chiappe, who was notorious some years ago in the position of French chief of police, was recently appointed High Commissioner for Syria and Lebanon. WEYGAND IN MOROCCO LONDON, November 27. The Marseilles radio stated that General Weygand arrived at Rabat by air. after which the Sultan of Morocco gave a private audience to General Weygand and Admiral Nogues.
