FINE PATRIOTIC EFFORT. QUOTA MUCH EXCEEDED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WAIPUKURAU, This Day. Exceeding their quota by £1,845 in the £1,000.000 Patriotic Appeal, Waipukurau and district have raised £4,120 in the Queen Carnival which concluded last night. With a population of approximately 4,000, the district’s effort per capita must easily eclipse that of any other in the Dominion. There were four Queen candidates, representing the Navy, Army, Air Force and the Maori Battalion. The Air Force nominee, Miss C. Raymond, is leading the Army candidate, Miss D. Ormond, by 6.304 votes.
