TENSION IN RUMANIA
OVER IRON GUARD MURDERS STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED. GENERAL INDIGNATION AND DISGUST. , A Reuter message from Belgrade transmitted by the 8.8. C. reports that a state of emergency has been declared throughout Rumania. There is indignation and disgust throughout the country at the reign of terror which has followed in Rumania so soon after joining the Axis. An American report states that more German troops are arriving in Rumania and another message speaks of great troops movements in Bucharest. One suggestion is that civil war is imminent and that Germany is preparing some new move in Rumania and is seeking to find a means of helping Italy without ..committing ..herself ..to ..any large-scale operations in the Balkan area.
CODREAiNU AS SAINT CEREMONIAL OBSERVANCES. FEEBLE COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY GOVERNMENT. BUCHAREST, November 27. M. Gigurtu and Dr. Argetioanu have been released. The Rumanian Press hails Codroanu as the greatest hero and saint of all time. When the executions had been carried out, the bodies of Codreanu and 15 other members of the Iron Guard were ceremoniously taken from the ditch in which they lay and will be reburied on December 1 in an orthodox church on the outskirts of the city. Meanwhile, priests are praying day and night beside the 50ft. slab which previously covered the ditch. A big procession will be staged on December 1. An official communique says the Government disapproves of the executions and is taking measures against, those responsible. In future anyone making similar attempts will be severely punished. The present leader. M. Horiasima. appealed to the Iron Guard to maintain order and discipline. He promised the Iron Guard’s loyally to General Antonescu. According to the Budapest radio, all the generals in the Rumanian army have offered their resignations as a result of the executions.
