HOLLYWOOD AND THE WAR
BIG DONATION TO RED CROSS. If there were ever any doubts as to where Hollywood stands in this war they were very definitely set at rest when Samuel Goldwyn presented a cheque for £90,000 to be divided between the American and British Red Cross. This amount represented direct donations from workers in every branch of the industry and was their quota for the year. The Hollywood committee already has started to campaign for the second year's quota. It also might be pointed out that this sum is separate from the thousands of pounds being raised by bazaars, house parties, and performances such as that given by the Theatre Guild, which is expected to send a cheque of more than £40.000 to the British Red Cross from the series of Noel Coward plays staged before packed houses for six weeks. The cheque for £90,000 was the largest single amount presented to the Red Cross by the workers in any one industry since the first World War.
