MASTERTON SALE FAT SHEEP BRING LATE RATES. The Associated Auctioneers report:— Small entries of sheep and pigs were forward at the sale conducted in Masterton yesterday, and there was a fair attendance. Fat sheep sold up to late rates, and .store four-tooth wethers were in keen demand. Prices:— Fat sheep: Wethers, 235. 9d.; good ewes 16s. 9d. to 18s.; ewes 13s. to 15s. 6d.; woolly hoggets. 265. Id. Store sheep: Four-tooth wethers 21s. Id. to 21s. 10d.; two-tooth wethers to 18s. 6d. to 18s. 10d.; small wethers, 15s. Bd.; woolly wether hoggets, 225. 2d.; woolly ewes with b.f. lambs, 15s, 6d. all counted.
ADDINGTON VALUES GENERALLY EASIER. OVERSUPPLY OF FAT WETHERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, November 27. Reduced entries were forward in most sections at the Addington markettoday, but. values were easier. Fat cattle sold unevenly, and on the average were cheaper by 15s. a head. Fat wethers were in oversupply, as the result of a shipment of more than 900 from Chatham Island; these depressed the market by 2s. 6d. a head. Ewes sold with little change. Store sheep, mostly wethers, sold briskly. Fifteen hundred store sheep were entered, and apart from the Chatham Island entry, the quality was not good. Chatham wethers, four and six-tooth Romneys, early shorn and big-framed, sold at up to 245. 9d., and Chatham sound-mouth ewes sold at 225. Finewoolled two-tooths made 245. 9d.. and others 225. 9d. A line of 113 shorn ewes and lambs sold for 14s. lOd. The fat lamb entry of 400 was slightly smaller. Prices were 9d. a pound, or 3s. a head dearer at the oq/tset, but feased later by id. a pound all over. The fat sheep entry of 4000 contained a big proportion of butchers’ wethers. Best Chatham ewes sold for 245. to 395, and lighter 255. to 28s. Wether mutton made up to 5,d. a pound, and ewe sd. to 5.| d. Good wethers made 335. to 365. 6d. tops, 395. 4f1., medium 265. to 305., ordinary and light down to 255.; prime ewes 365. 4d., good sorts from 305., ordinary 245. to 285., light to 19s. 6d. The fat cattle yarding numbered 560, compared with 482. The quality was good. Good medium steers and best heifers showed only a minor easing, but unfinished stock were down by up to £1 a head. Good beef sold at 395. to 425. a hundred pounds, but a lot was under 40s. Prime steers made to £24, heavy £l5 to £lB, medium £l2 to £l4, light from £9; good heifers £ll to £l3, tops £l6, light from £7; best cows, £ll to £l3, ordinary £9 to £lO, unfinished from £7 10s. The porker entry was the largest of the season, and values were firm. Baconers were in full supply, and values improved by up to 3s. a head. Light porkers sold for 51. to 58s. 6d., medium 595. 6d. to 645. 6d., best to 695. 6d.; average price Bd. to 9d. a pound. Light baconers made £3 10s. 6d. to £3 17s. 6d.. medium £4 to £4 55., heavy £4 7s. 6d. to £4 15s. 6d.; average 6Jd. to 71d. h pound.
