YOUNG FARMERS

DISTRICT DEBATING CONTEST WON BY CARTERTON. FINAL HELD WITH ALFREDTON. Debating ability of a high standard was displayed by teams from the Carterton and Alfredton Young Farmers' Clubs when they met last night to contest the final of the district debating competition. The subject was: "That the practical farmer has contributed more to the advancement of agriculture than has the scientist." and the wide scope of the subject was well explored by both teams. The judge, Mr J. Tier, of the Wairarapa College, in giving the decision to Carterton by 194 points to 171, complimented the speakers on their performance and provided some valuable constructive criticism which must materially assist the debaters on future occasions.
