REGENT THEATRE

“BLACKMAIL” FINALLY TONIGHT. The final screening of “Blackmail,” a thrilling drama of the great oil fields, takes place this evening at the Regent Theatre. “THE MIDDLE WATCH.” Take a Captain R.N., handsome and a trifle girl-shy (Jack Buchanan); an Admiral, chesty and crusty (Fred Emney); two lovely girls, out for fun but nice nevertheless (Greta Gynt and Kay Walsh), and allow all to sleep aboard a cruiser ordered to sea for exercise. Simmer- gently, add Admiral’s wife and daughter, a chaperone, a worried Commander, Chinese servant, two marines who fulfil every tradition of a resourceful regiment, stir vigorously in the middle of the night and there will be fun for any number of persons. The foregoing might be lan Hay and Stephen King-Hall’s recipe for writing “The Middle Watch,” showing at the Regent Theatre tomorrow The resultant dish is excellent. Laughs are abundant in this happy picture of the Navy. The marines alone are worth the price of admission (Reginald Purdell and Leslie Fuller); apparently there are many reasons why marines are known as “jollies.” The featurettes are outstanding and include a most interesting study of English horsebreeding, a thrilling mountaineering short and a Pathe Pictorial showing all that’s best in variety. Plans are at Nimmo’s and the theatre.
