STATEMENT BY THE DIES COMMITTEE ACTION DEMANDED IN U.S.A. EXPULSION OF TOTALITARIAN AGENTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) WASHINGTON, November 26. The Dies Committee today issued the following statement:—“The only effective measure to prevent the un-uni-formed troops of the Totalitarian Powers from stifling the defence programme through strikes and sabotage is to expel all Communists, Fascists and Nazis from the defence industries. To permit these people to continue in positions of leadership of certain unions and in key positions in the defence industries upon an assumption that they would bo watched is to 10l low methods which have been a complete failure in the countries that have been overrun by Stalin and Hitler. Mr. Summers, chairman of the Jucliciary Committee of the House of Representatives, said the committee was agreed that defence production plants must be kept open as a matter of public policy. The strike in the Vultee Aircraft Corporation at Downey (California) was settled today. SABOTAGE PENALTIES. WASHINGTON, November 26. The Senate has unanimously approved of legislation imposing a fine of 10,000 dollars and 10 years’ imprisonment for sabotage of defence industries.
BETRAYAL OF TRUST FEDERATION OF LABOUR RESOLUTION. DENUNCIATION OF UNION GANGSTERS. NEW ORLEANS, November 26. The American Federation of Labour passed a resolution condemning the “racketeering gangsterism” of some union officials and recommending that the national and international unions affiliated with the federation should make constitutional provision for adequate disciplinary action against oflicers found guilty of betraying their trust by using their office for personal gain or who have been convicted of acts discrediting the Labour movement. It also passed a resolution urging that the Communist. Party should be barred from the ballot in all Slates.
