STATE THEATRE
■ “LUCKY CISCO KID.” A mystery-killer steals the Cisco Kid’s name! A two-gun terror beats him to the draw! The sheriff gets the noose around his neck! A jealous senorita has him at her mercy! But how the romantic rogue of the Rio Grande lives to laugh at them all, makes ‘“Lucky Cisco Kid,” which opens today at the State Theatre, exciting and thrilling entertainment and by far the best of the series. Cesar Romero, in the colourful Caballero’s role, scores handsomely in a well built and surprising screen play that packs terrific suspense and clever twists. The film story affords Romero plenty of opportunity to display his versatile talents. When the Cisco Kid is framed by a crooked judge and hunted by a hundred enemies, there’s bound to be thrilling action. When he is mixed up with two beautiful but jealous women, there’s sure to be romance. A reward on his head and the posse at his heels, he provides “straight shooting” entertainment from start to finish. Deeper in danger and luckier in love than ever before, Cisco walks into the posse’s very midst and comes out with a lovely senorita on each arm! The gay, lovable and dangerous character created by O. Henry never was better on the screen. A strong cast of featured players is headed by blonde and beautiful Mary Beth Hughes, one of the screen’s finest young players. Another bright spot in the featured cast is provided by Dana Andrews, a young and surprisingly natural newcomer. Evelyn Venable, beautiful and capable as ever, also gives a fine performance. Also showing is a second at- ■ traction, “Brown on Resolution,” a drama of British naval heroism.
