Settlement Changes Owners. Settlement has been, sold Mr H. Barlow and Mr J. Smith, who raced the Nightmarch gelding Merry March with some success. Settlement, by Night Raid from Receipt, by Paper Money, was trained early by H. B. Lorigan and later by F. D. Jones. He gained a reputation as an unreliable racehorse. Jones tried him all ways, without securing the results he expected. He ran odd good races, but continued to be an uncertain proposition, though on his day he was a good horse and stayer. Eventually Jones tired of his charge and a friendly arrangement between the owners and the trainer saw Settlement and his mate, Prudent Prince, transferred to C. Emerson’s stable. He had some minor placings last season, which he had opened attractively by taking part in a triple dead-heat at the Grand National meeting, but his form remained unreliable. What programme his new owner has in view for Settlement is not known. He is to have a rest, in the meantime, and possibly, he will bo tried later as a jumper.
