TWO MINES IDLE

SEPARATE AND DISTINCT. DISPUTE OVER PAYMENT OF TRUCKERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, November 25. Though arrangements had been made with the management of various mines in the district to work today and to observe December 23 as the King's Birthday holiday, there was no work clone? at the Rotowaro and Macdon-. aid mines today. The two mines were idle for separate and different reasons. At Rotowaro mine the miners assembled before work was due to start and discussions took place about statements made by the managements at the hearing of appeals before the Hamilton Manpower Committee on Friday. It is understood the men protested against the statements and decided to abstain from working for a day. At the Macdonald mine the stoppage of work was caused by a local dispute concerning payment of truckers. At the Pukemiro. Glen Afton and Re-, nown mines work was carried out as i arranged. The arrangement to work today and! to observe December 23 as a holiday was mutually agreed to because of Christmas Day being on a Wednesday. The alteration will permit the mines being closed down on December 21 and the miners will thus enjoy an additional weekend in the holiday period.
