BOMBING ATTACKS
AIR MINISTRY REPORT DORNIER SHOT DOWN INTO SEA. INTERCEPTED BY SPITFIRES. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.15 p.m.) RUGBY, November 24. The Air Ministry announces that last night the R.A.F. bombed targets in Berlin, Leipzig, Turin, Essen, Duis-berg-Ruhrort, Boulogne, Brest, Lorient and elsewhere. An Air Ministry and Ministry of Home Security communique states: “Enemy activity over this country today haS been slight. Several formations of fighters and fighter-bombers crossed the south-east coast, flying in the direction of London. They were promptly met and dispersed by our fighters. Reports so far received show that a few bombs were dropped at several points in Kent. Little damage and very few casualties are reported.” “One of the three enemy planes destroyed over Britain today was a Dornier 215, which was shot down after machine-gunning a West of England aerodrome,” the Air Ministry News Service states. “Two Spitfires intercepted the enemy raider at between 1,000 and 2,000 feet and a squadronleader and pilot officer attacked it alternately until the bomber crashed in the sea, three miles from the coast.” ENEMY RAIDS (Received This Day, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, November 24. The Air Ministry says that though bombs were dropped during part of the night at widely-separated places in many parts of the country, the enemy’s attack was mainly concentrated on a town in Southern England. Houses, public and commercial buildings, were damaged by explosives and fire.
