GREEKS GAIN MORE GROUND IN ALBANIA

Including Heights that Dominate Argyrokastron MR CHURCHILL’S CONGRATULATIONS ON GREAT VICTORY EVENTS THAT RECALL CLASSIC AGE In their continued advance on the Albanian front, a 8.8. C. broadcast states, the Greeks have captured a town fifteen miles north-west of Koritza. They have also taken the village of Konispolis, which is just inside the Albanian border near the Adriatic coast. It seems unlikely that a single Italian soldier now remains on Greek soil outside a prison camp. The position on the central front is not made fully clear, but it appears that the Italian rearguards are making a stand in some valleys near the border, while their main body reforms its line of battle. _ As the advance continues, it becomes more difficult tor the Italians to use their air force effectively. They are handicapped by the loss of aerodromes at Koritza and the aerodrome at Argyrokastron is threatened. Mr Churchill has transmitted his heartfelt congratulations to the Greek Prime Minister, General Metaxas, on the great Greek victories over the Italians, which, he says, recall the classic age. In their hasty retreat the Italians left behind them the papers in their administrative offices. These included proclamations in Italian and Greek which were to have been posted in Greek towns and villages. Later news states that the Greeks have occupied heights dominating Argyrokastron and have captured another Albanian town on the Yugoslav border. A message from Ankara states that a proclamation has been issued telling the inhabitants their duties under the state of siege proclaimed on Saturday night.
