A Fine Performance. On the strength of her good win in the Waikato Cup the previous week, Our Jean was'made an each'way favourite for the Alison Cup at Ellerslie on Saturday, but she ran unplaced, victory going to the second fancy, Kindergarten. The winner was always .well placed. British Talent took charge going along the back, only to give way before the half-mile to Bronze Moth, who led into the straight from Royal Appellant, British Talent, Clipper, Kindergarten and Cornish. The leading division bunched at the distance, and Kindergarten came strongly on the outside to win by a neck from Anita Foe, who also finished very strongly. Cornish fought on well to be half a length away third, and Bronze Moth was fourth, followed by Greek Q.ueen, who came from a long way back, Wildore, •The Cardinal, Mintlaw, Namara and Clipper. Kindergarten registered a fine performance for his first attempt hi open company. A Win for Defy. The Masterton maiden winner, Defy, gave evidence of striking improvement by a very decisive win in the concluding event at the Levin meeting on Sat-, urday at the expense of another Masterton representative, Cheerful Lady, who was a good favourite. Defy was not in the picture till the concluding stages and just as the leaders, including Cheerful Lady, Royal Consort. | Conversion, Wakarara and Kadina were fighting it out, she appeared on the outer and, continuing her run, overwhelmed them all to win. going away. Cheerful Lady finished better than Royal Consort for second, with Conversion, Pas de Cheval and Kadina all well up.
