KING’S BIRTHDAY ATTRACTION. KEEN CONTESTS ANTICIPATED. On Monday afternoon next, November 25 (King’s Birthday holiday) the Wairarapa Coursing Club will conduct the first open meeting of the season at the Akura grounds. There will be r full list of events, comprising seven races, five flat and two hurdle. Good nominations are expected from outside owners while a strong contingent of local dogs will also be competing. The open flat race for the handsome challenge cup presented by the Wairarapa Ice Cream Co. will be competed for for the first time this season. This race will attract the pick of the track greyhounds of the Hawke's Bay, Wellington, Wanganui and Wairarapa districts. The conditions of the trophy are that it has to be won any three times at open meetings. So far the cun has changed hands on six occasions, Mungi Taipo being the only dog to have won it twice. The open hurdle race can be expected to provide thrilling jumping. Flash Diamond, the locally-owned New Zealand champion, is a star performer and is worth going along to see. His effortless style of hurdling is remarkable. The racing will commence at 1.30 p.m. The track and plant are in good running order. A trial held during the weekend showed everything to be satisfactory.
