CENTRAL SCHOOL

WORK OF MODERNISATION ALMOST COMPLETED CEREMONY AT END OF MONTH. MINISTER OF EDUCATION TO ATTEND. Work has been almost completed on extensive alterations and the renovation of the buildings of the faithful old Masterton Central School, which has been standing since 1881 and will, therefore, be sixty years old next year. In order to celebrate this renewal of life, and to give parents and friends an opportunity of seeing what has been done, a special ceremony is being arranged for Saturday, November 30,. and it is expected that the Minister for Education (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason) will be present and will speak on that occasion.

The School Parents’ Association has agreed to supply afternoon tea for all and there will be a display of children’s work in the Assembly Hall. Included in the programme will be two songs by the ' children. These songs have an interest of their own, having been written by Mr Ribbands, of Hastings, and supplied to the headmaster ((Mr Coddington) as a mark of appreciation of certain work. These songs are entitled “The Four Starred Ensign” and “One and All for Maoriland.” The former has recently been approvevd for use in all schools, by the Education Department and published in the “Education Gazette.” The latter will, no doubt be heard of later. Other features of the afternoon will be marching and playing by the Drum and Trumpet Band and a demonstration of new drill by Standard 3 girls. It is hoped to make the occasion a “red letter” day in the history of the school.
