“THE FOURTH WALL”

OPERA HOUSE TONIGHT. The final rehearsal for tonight's performance of "The Fourth Wall” has been held, and, it is said, has not belied the promise of the earlier rehearsals. Patrons may confidently rely on obtaining really excellent entertainment at the performances tonight and on Monday night. The booking is reported to have been excellent, and packed houses for both performances appear to be assured. This should result in a substantial contribution to the patriotic fund, to which the net proceeds are to be devoted. The rehearsals, it is stated, show Miss Phyllis Shearer and Messrs J. M. Lawson and J. A. Kennedy as admirably suited in their very onerous parts. [ Moreover, all three are reported to be word-perfect, and this in itself is no mean achievement. Mr Kent-John-ston’s part is almost equally important and exacting, and his success in it at rehearsals is reported to be such as to ensure his making a remarkable impression at the actual performances. Miss Jose Hosking, it is said, skilfully and convincingly shows that the modern girl, beneath her veneer of affectation, has a sound foundation of pluck and intelligence. Mr N. Fleming gives a very satisfactory impression up to the time of his regretted demise, while Mrs J. A. Kennedy’s Mrs Fulverton? Fane is a highly amusing portrayal of female vanity. Mr O. Hemmingsen is a convincing Edward Laverille. Mr S. J. Barber is good as a country policeman, while the smaller parts taken by Messrs J. Norrie and H. Mackenzie Douglas are reported to be more than adequately filled. Altogether, a sterling performance may be confidently expected.
