SHOW AFFAIRS

WAIRARAPA P. & A. SOCIETY MEETING AT CARTERTON TODAY. SATISFACTORY FINANCIAL POSITION. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society was held at Carterton this mor.ning. The president, Mr J. A. McLeod, presided over a good attendance of members. Reference to the death of Mr A. F. Pink was made by the president and after a motion of condolence had been passed it was decided to send a letter of sympathy to the relatives. It was decided to send, a letter to Mrs Malcolm, Greytown, daughter of Mr O. A. Cadwallader (vice-president of the Society) expressing the wish that she would have a speedy recovery from her illness. The treasurer, Mr Geo. Brown, reported that a profit of £483 4s 7d had been made on the recent show, compared with a profit of £172 10s last year. There was a credit balance of £1240 in the Bank of New Zealand and another credit balance of £448, making a total credit balance of £ IGBB. Receipts since the last meeting totalled £ll5l 15s 9d. Accounts amounting to £875 10s 9d were passed for payment. The secretary, Mr L. H. Smart, submitted a detailed report on the show finances, which disclosed a very satisfactory position. “We have to be very satisfied with the result brought about by a combination of circumstances,” stated Mr Smart. He said that the committee had to take credit for the splendid results. It had worked like q, machine and its members had shown that they had the interests of the Society at heart. “It is pleasing to come here and hear such a fine report. The result is very gratifying indeed." stated the president Mr. McLeod.

“It is very clear that the decision to carry on with the show was heartily endorsed by farmers and the public,” said Mr. Brown. He referred in eulogistic terms to the work of the secretary, and for having kept the expenditure down to a minimum. The secretary of the Dannevirkc A. and P. Association advised that the Dannevirkc show had been cancelled this year as the grounds had been taken over by’ the military authorities. It was decided to send a letter to the Association expressing regret that the show could not be held this year. Many judges at the show wrote congratulating the society on its success and forwarding their judging expenses. The Royal Show Society advised that the Oil Fuel Controller had approved of the issue of petrol to judges, officials and exhibitors travelling to A. and P. Shows. Applications should be certified by show secretaries and lodged with the local district oil fuel controller. The letter was received. Seven new members were elected and three resignations were received.'
