MANY FIRES

STARTED IN MIDLAND TOWN DAMAGE AND CASUALTIES HEAVY DESTRUCTION OF RAIDING PLANES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, November 15. Enemy air activity over Britain last night was concentrated mainly on a very heavy attack on one town in the Midlands. It.is officially stated that many fires were caused and much damage done It is feared that the casualties are heavy. Agency messages say that 40 planes took part. Cinemas, theatres and public baths were among the objects damaged. Four public shelters were damaged by explosive bombs. A bomb fell in the ward of a hospital and caused casualties and the windows of the operating theatre were blown in.

Raids on other towns in the Midlands caused damage to shops. It is believed one raider was brought, down in the Midlands tonight. Bombs were dropped in several widely separated districts of England and in North Wales. The number of casualties is very small. In London bombs were dropped by intermittent raiders.

A communique dealing with the day’s activities reports that heavy casualties have again been inflicted on the German air force. Thirteen dive-bomb-ers and one fighter were destroyed off the south-east coast before they could rrtake any attack, and a,single heavy bomber which crossed the south coast this morning was immediately shot down. Later reports during the day show that four more enemy planes were shot down, making 19 in all. Two British fighters were lost, but both pilots are safe. A few bombs were dropped in Kent during the day, and there was some damage to buildings in one coastal town, as well as a few casualties. Long-range guns today shelled the French coast for four hours. The salv6s were at 10-minute intervals. Waves of British bombers attacked Berlin again last night. NIGHT FLIGHT MADE BY MARSHAL GOERING. Marshal Goering has flown over Holland at night, to check reports by military commanders that the Dutch signal to R.A.F. raiders.
