Their Excellencies the Governor General and Lady Galway paid a fare' well visit to Blenheim yesterday afternoon.

Mr R. Bennett, of Masterton, is a visitor to Hastings. The Hon. F. Jones, Minister of Defence, left Wellington yesterday for Waipawa. He will return to Wellington today. At a meeting of. the Masterton County Council yesterday afternoon a special order was passed appointing Messrs G. A. Pain, G. H. Perry, R. M. Perry, R. Taylforth and O. A. Wyeth, managing ratepayers of the Fernridge water supply.

The death occurred in Masterton yesterday of Mr. Charles Hiscock, at the age of 74 years. The late Mr. Hiscock, who had been in the employ of the late Mr. T. Wagg for the past 39 years, had no relatives in New Zealand. The funeral took place in Masterton this afternoon.

The funeral of the late Mr Frank Reeves, a South African War veteran, took place yesterday at the soldiers’ section of the Masterton Cemetery. The Ven Archdeacon E. J. Rich read the service. A wreath was received from the South African War Veterans’ Association, members of which (Major S. Fletcher, M.C., Captain J. V. Dolan, D. 5.0., Messrs H. M. Boddington and H. Marsh) were the pall-bearers.

Officer cadets who have gained commissions and who took part in the passing out ceremony at Trentham yesterday included the All Black C. K. Saxton and the New Zealand representative cricketer, H. G. Vivian. G. S. Brash, formerly a member of the Old Boys' Cricket Club, Masterton, W. A. S. Armour, who played rugby last year for the Old. Boys' Club, Masterton. C. W. McMillan and D. U. Wellington, of Masterton, were others who gained commissions.

Messrs P. V. Stowell (Masterton). B. W. Stent (Carterton), and R. J. Warrington (Carterton) are to report to the Royal New Zealand Air Force station, Harewood, for preliminary training as flight mechanics. Messrs D. A. Donald (Masterton), R. J. Elliott (Masterton). W. R. Jensen (Masterton), and T. Stoker (Martinborough) are to report for flight riggers training. Mr G. Smith (Masterton) for training as a fitter armourer and Mr N. A. Rippon (Masterton) for training as a wireless operator.
