TE ORE ORE RIVER BOARD
MEETING INI MASTERTON YESTERDAY. RIVER IMPROVEMENT WORK. A meeting of the Te Ore Ore River Board was held in Masterton yesterday. The chairman, Mr R. E. Gordon Lee presided. There were also present: Messrs H. H. Mawley, W. I. Armstrong, P. R. Welch, J. W. Colquhoun, J. Donald and G. Moore. Accounts for £lO7 14s 9d were passed for payment. The National Service Department advised that the Department would grant a subsidy of 100 per cent of wages cost for the employment of twelve registered and eligible married men for a period of tvzelve weeks on improvement work in the Ruamahanga River at Te Ore Ore. The sum of £731 had been allocated. A letter was received from the secretary of the New Zealand Road Transport Alliance thanking the Board for having permitted sand and shingle to be taken from portions of the Ruamahanga River. An assurance was given that the conditions imposed by the council would be strictly complied with. It was decided to fix Friday, January 24, as the final date for the payment of rates, after which a penalty of ten per cent would be imposed.
