MASTERTON CLUB JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. WON BY DR PRIOR. A match, the result of which has been awaited with considerable interest. was played on the Masterton golf links yesterday for the B grade championship between Dr N. H. Prior, the holder, and Mr J. Bee. The final was over 30 holes. In the morning the defending champion struck form, and at lunch time was leading 4 up. Prior took the first hole in the afternoon to make him 5 up. but then Bee came to light to take the next seven holes in a row to be 2 up at the turn. This put the reigning champion on his mettle, and the last nine holes saw a grim battle with the challenger tiring and Prior steadily coming into his own. At the thirty-fourth hole they were all square and Prior regained the lead at "The Dam" with a magnificent chip for a birdie 3. leaving him dormy 1. The strain had told too much on the challenger who was unable to sink his putt at the last green, thus leaving Dr Prior the 1940 champion. The congratulations of the club go out to both the winner and the loser for an extremely interesting final.
