GALLANT STAND
—s> MADE BY THE GREEKS. VALUABLE TIME GAINED. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, November 10. Commenting on the Greek campaign in a , leading article, the "Sunday Times” says that nearly a fortnight’s gallant resistance by the Greek army on the Greco-Albanian frontier has gone far to deprive the latest Axis offensive of any surprise value. There is no evidence on which to speculate whether or how long it can be kept up, but at least it has secured time not only for the Greeks themselves to mobilise, but for the British forces in the Mediterranean and Middle East to reorganise themselves to the new situation. “The landing of British troops in Crete, the establishment of British naval and air bases there, the subsequent bombing of Brindisi and Valona and the interposition of British fighter planes to drive off Italian bombers are as good a performances of our promises as anyone could have expected, with the time."
