SALE AT FEILDING NO MOVEMENT IN SHEEP VALUES. CATTLE PRICES FIRM. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING, November 8. There was an exceptionally small yarding at the Feilding stock sale today. Sheep were in light supply and the cattle entry was confined mainly to beef and dairy stock. Prices for sheep showed no movement, but cattle values were quite firm. Beyond an odd pen or two no ewes were available in the fat sheep section, and butchers had little choice in hoggets and wethers, for which prices remained steady. Extra prime hoggets made 245. 7d„ prime 235. 6d. to 235. 10d., light 21s. lOd. to 225. 7d.; extra prime wethers, 265. 4d. to 265. 10d., prime 255. Id. to 255. 10d.. unfinished 21s. 10d.: price ewes 15s. Id., unfinished 9s. lOd. to 13s. 4d. Fair values ruled for good forward lines of station stock, and heavy works cows also commanded attention. The entry, however, was very small. Forward three-year steers brought £8 155., yearling steers £3 16s; good yearling Hereford heifers £3 135.; A.A. cows and heifers £6 Is.; cows and vealers £4 7s; works cows, heavy £4 to £4 2s. 6d„ others £2 15s. to £3 155.: yearling Jersey heifers £4 16s. Though no extra high -quality dairy stock was offered there was a steady demand for good average cows and heifers. Best springing cows sold for £7 10s. to £8 10s„ others £5 12s. 6d. to £7; cows in milk £7: good springing heifers £8 15s. to £9; later calvers £4 15s. to £7 15s. A few head of prime oxen were yarded and sold well. Female beef was on the light side, but changed hands at satisfactory rates. Extra prime oxen made £l4 12s. 6d., light £l2 7s. 6d.; light steers £8 12s. 6d.: medium prime cows £8 17s. 6d. to £9 7s. 6d., light prime £7 to £7 17s. 6d.. unfinished £4 17s. 6d. to £6 55.; light heifers £6 12s. 6d.; runners £3 15s. to £5 ss. A good entry of pigs sold well at high rates. Best weaners brought 21s. 6d. to 275.. small 16s. to 175.; slips 31s. to 345.; porkers £2 6s. to £2 16s.
CARTERTON SALE
GOOD DEMAND FOR CATTLE. Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., report as follows on their Carterton sale yesterday:—Owing to the rough weather only a small entry came forward. Cattle met with a good demand, especially fat and forward cows. Pigs made late rates. Quotations: — Cattle: —Springing heifers to £8 15s; heifer, just calved, to £5; springing cow, to £8; 18 months’ P.A. steers, to £5 19s; yearling Jersey heifers, £4 ss, £5 Is., to £5 2s; pedigree yearling Jersey bulls, to lOlgns; grade yearling Jersey Bulls, £4 to £5 10s; fat cows, £6 125., to £8 2s. 6d.; forwards cows, £3 165., £4 35., to £5 7s. 6d.; yearling S.H. bulls, to £lO 10s. Pigs:—Weaners (good), 235. 6d. to 285.; ditto (medium), 19s. 6d. to 235.; ditto (small), 16s. 6d., 17s. 6d. to 195.; slips, 295. to 30s. 6d.; store pigs, 335. to 385.; light porkers, to £2 55.; baconers, £3 13s. to £4 ss.
