MOUNTED RIFLES

FORMATION OF WAIRARAPA SQUADRON. The Minister of Defence, Mr F; Jones, has announced the formation* of nine independent mounted rifle squadrons, embracing the whole of the Dominion. The following is the personnel of the Wairarapa (No. 5) Squadron, the area of which extends from Black Head to the western extremity of Palliser Bay and the headquarters are in Masterton: Officer commanding: Captain R. F. R. Beetham, M.C. Second in command: Lieut. D. H. S. Riddiford, M.C. Quartermaster: 2nd Lieut. P. G. Ramsay. No. 1 Troop: Headquarters, Wimbledon, 2nd Lieut. J. H. Gibbons. No. 2 Troop: Headquarters, Pongaroa, 2nd Lieut. R. S. Pilmer. No. 3 Troop: Headquarters, Tuturumuri (no appointment yet). No. 4 Troop: Headquarters, Pirinoa, 2nd Lieut. J. Martin. '
