STRICKLAND AND ALABAMA KID. A REPORT DENIED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. In connection with the Auckland report' yesterday concerning the match between Strickland and Alabama Kid to take place at Palmerston North the secretary of the New Zealand Boxing Council, Mr Aldridge, said today that certain obstacles would have to bo overcome before the bout could take place. The contest would have to be staged by the Manawatu Association which could not delegate its power to anyone else. The purse would have to be divided on a 60—40 basis and per-, mission obtained to go beyond the limit of £l5O. No application for a fight had yet been received.
An Auckland telegram yesterday stated: Negotiations are proceeding to match Maurice Strickland, ex-conten-der for the world's heavyweight boxing title, with Alabama Kid. at Palmerston North, on Boxing Night. Alabama Kid has been offered £l5O. win. lose, or draw, by the Palmerston North Boxing Association.
