\ Under the scheme of new bonuses to be paid by the Auckland Acclimatisation Society for the destruction of vermin. the location. ’North Island, in which the vermin must be killed, is specially stressed. Ferret and polecat tails are no longer of any worth apart from the skins, the purchase of which the society now undertakes. At a recent meeting of the society, it was stated that a local furrier had brought 250 tails to the secretary, Mr C. M. Gordon, to claim the 2s bounty. Enquiries revealed. however, that far from being vermin destroyed in the cause of good shooting, the tails were from skins bought in Dunedin for the making of fur goods. The tail is not required for this work. In addition, it was found that only 56 of the skins were from the North Island, and therefore entitled to the association’s bounty.
