V.R.C. MEETING A SURPRISE IN OAKS. HIGH CASTE WINS STAKES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, November 7. The weather was fine and there was a large attendance at Flemington for the third day of the V.R.C. meeting. Valhalla had little trouble in winning the November Hurdle Race. Modiste, when assured of second position, fell at the last hurdle. Despite interference at the start, All Love outclassed her rivals in the Byron Moore Stakes and maintained her unbeaten record in three starts. She cost 250 guineas and has won over £2OOO in stakes.
High Caste was untroubled to win the Linlithgow Stakes. He was fourth in the early stages but tackled the leaders in the straight. The pace was slow early but the last half-mile was run in 47 seconds. Gold Salute ran a good race but was no match for the winner. Amiable improved on recent efforts. Reading weakened after making the pace. High Caste dead-heated with Manrico in this event last year. Velocity, last to turn, outstayed his rivals in the Carnival Handicap. Fur Trader ran a good race. Nightbeam had every chance. He led at the distance, but weakened. The winner is a son of the New Zealander, Veilmond. Session created a surprise by beating the alleged certainty, Tranquil Star, in the Oaks Stakes. Throttle was a moderate third. D. Munro, rider of Session, won the Oaks on Triode last year. Riding was a big factor in today’s victory. Session ran out a little in the straight and some people expected a protest. Macrob. raced>by trainer Jack Holt, gave him his first Melbourne win this season with a narrow win in the Veteran Stakes. L’Aiglon was always prominent. Saint Warden finished fast and beat Gladynev, who had evei’y chance, for third position.
