PLUNKET SOCIETY

MOTHERS ENTERTAINED. PLAYS AND OTHER ITEMS. A most successful gathering for the entertainment of mothers was held by the Masterton branch of the Plunket Society in the Municipal Social Hall last evening. Mrs E. J. Rich presented two short plays, “Widows” and “Prunes and Prisms,” those taking part being Mesdames W. A. Michael, Price and Mirams and the Misses J. Hosking and V. Rich. The plays were very amusing and were heartily enjoyed by the audience. Mrs Miller Hope gave a much appreciated pianoforte solo, and the Solway Old Girls Choir rendered two delightful vocal items. At the conclusion of the items, beautiful flowers were presented on behalf of tne committee to Mrs Rich, Mrs Holgate and Mrs Miller Hope. Mrs Kay Holgate, with her two assistants, the Misses P. Thomas and H. Tankersley, gave a demonstration of the Bagot-Stack system of health and beauty culture. The aims and ideals of this movement are health, peace and beauty and it is essentially for women and girls. The movement in New Zealand began in Auckland three years ago and today there are centres all over New Zealand. The membership, it is stated, has increased to 200,000. An excellent supper, provided by the members of the committee, and the singing of “God Save the King,” brought a very enjoyable evening to a close.
