TAKEN BY CORRESPONDENT IN ATHENS REASONS SEEN FOR SOBER CONFIDENCE. ITALIAN WEAKNESSES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, November 5. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Athens correspondent says that reasons justifying sober confidence in official' circles include: — (1) The firmness with which the Greek advance lines are held against Italian attacks. (2) The Greeks are not adopting a “Gamelin” negative strategy, but are counter-attacking and thrusting deeper into Albania. (3) Italian thrusts must be made along mountain roads and valleys, liable to isolation. (4) Circumstances have belied Italian hopes for a “victory by lunchtime.” (5) The magnificent morale of Greek troops and civilians, which is unrivalled since the independence movement of 1921. (6) The palpable distress shown in the Italian communiques, which blame the weather for their lack of success, though the Italians themselves chose the season for aggression.
