The Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce, left Wellington yesterday for New Plymouth. The Rev. D. B. Forde Carlisle, lately minister of the Berhampore Baptist Church, Wellington, is to take charge of the church at Te Awamutu. The Hon. H. T. Armstrong, Minister of Health, left Wellington yesterday afternoon for Palmerston North, His engagements for today include an inspection of institutions under the control of the Palmerston North Hospital Board and a visit to Ratana Pa. The Minister will also visit Wanganui before returning to Wellington on Saturday. The death has occurred of Mr. J. R. Snedden. well-known in the Labour movement, throughout New Zealand, states a Press Association message from Auckland. Born in Scotland he worked on .the railways there and later on the railways in South Australia. He settled at Timaru 20 years ago. He was secretary to several trade unions and also of the Labour Representation Committee. He retired to Auckland some years ago. Mr.'Snedden leaves a wife and one son.
Every seat in the council chamber of the Wellington Town Hall was filled yesterday when a representative deputation waited on Mr. T. C. A. Hislop and asked him to allow himself to be nominted again for the office of mayor at the May elections. Mr. Hislop has already established a record in length of term as far as Wellington is concerned, yet there was no room left for doubt yesterday about the desire of those present to see him contest the election once more. Mr. Hislop promised to be a candidate.
