Mr E. K. Eastwood, Masterton, has returned from a business trip to Christchurch.

Mr W. J. Budd, of Longbush, has been on a visit to Dannevirke, where his brother is in the territorial camp. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, is visiting Palmerston North today to open 'the Manawatu Spring Show. He will return to Wellington early this evening.

Mr D. V. Sutton, head teacher at the Kohinui School, has been appointed secretary of the Pahiatua Calf Club in succession of Mr G. M. Slater, who has left the district.

The death has occurred in Hastings of Mr Thomas Frederick Scott, at the age of 65 years. Born in Leicester. England, Mr Scott came to New Zealand about 33 years ago, settling in Hastings. When the Hastings Municipal Theatre was completed Mr Scott became the first caretaker, holding this position for several years. He was also the first secretary of the Hastings Industrial Co-operative Society and a member of Loyal Hastings Lodge of Oddfellows. Mr Scott is survived by his wife, four sons, Messrs Frederick William, Frank James, John Wilfred and Lester Collin Scott, and one daughter, Mrs M. J. Rich, of Lansdowne.

The nomination of Mr. A. E. Armstrong, Westshore, as official Labour candidate for the Napier seat at the general election next year was unanimously made at the fortnightly meeting of ,the Napier branch of the New Zealand Labour Party. The nomination will have to be ratified by the Labour Representation Committee, which will meet in the near future. Mr Armstrong is a son of the Minister of Housing and is a comparatively young man. He went to Napier from Christchurch some months ago and has been attached to the Labour Department as liaison officer. He is a former member of the Christchurch City Council. Since he has resided in Napier, Mr. Armstrong has taken a leading part in the affairs of the official New Zealand Labour Party.
