“DAMAGED GOODS.” One of the most sensational films of recent years, “Damaged Goods,’’ will be shown at the Cosy Theatre tonight. As a stage play, “Damaged Goods’’ packed theatres throughout the world and created a sensation as the result of its plain message. In the picture there is a frankness in dealing with the subject matter that will make an appeal, and convey its lesson in a striking manner. The leading roles are in capable hands and the theme will be appreciated at its full worth, as it deals with one of the greatest scourges afflicting humanity. There is in the picture a lesson that should be studied by all, while the acting is of an exceptionally high order. 1

When the original stage play was first produced there was protests heard concerning such subject matter being brought before the public ’by means of the stage. There was an outcry among church people and among other sections of the public, but doctors generally appreciated the great work such a play would produce in drawing attention to serious disease dangers. A bitter controversy raged for some time in America, England and France concerning the play, but the criticism only helped to boom it. When the picture was first produced there was a slight protest by “diehards” but it was accepted by picture patrons not only as a magnificent drama with outstanding acting but as a means of bringing a serious matter directly under the notice of the public by the most popular method. The picture is one that should be seen by all adults who well might take seriously to heart the message it contains. Children under 14 years of age will not be admitted to the picture.

There is a strong supporting programme including Rathe Pictorials, scenic, musical and variety films.
