ITALIAN CRIME
I SINKING OF THE HELLE. FALSE CHARGE AGAINST BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, November 2. When it could no longer be concealed that the Greek cruiser Helle was sunk by a torpedo of Italian origin, the Italians stated that the torpedo works at Fiume often supplied foreign navies, among which Britain received large consignments. It is authoritatively stated in London that not since 1911 has Britain used the Fiume type of torpedo, and it can definitely be stated that the British Navy has never fired a torpedo of Italian manufacture. In the infancy of the torpedo Whiteheads, England’s torpedo experts, established a branch in Fiume for the manufacture of torpedoes for the Italian Navy.
