RECORDER’S REPORT FOR OCTOBER. Miss A. M. Brown, Masterton weather recorder, supplies the following summary for October (figures for October last year given in parentheses): — Pressure at 9 a.m. standard time, highest 30.62 inches on 22nd (30.71); lowest, 29.79 on 29th (29.87). Temperatures: Absolute shade maximum, 68.1 degrees on 15th (70.8); absolute shade minimum, 30.1 degrees on 26th (29). Thus the range was 38 (41.8). Mean temperature for the month, 51.6 (51.8). Absolute grass minimum, 21.3 on 6th (18.9); average grass minimum, 32.6 (34.4); average at one foot underground, 54.4 (53.9). Severest frost, 9.1 on night of sth (11.5). Days of frost (grass minimum 30.4 degrees Fahr, or lower), 17 (13); of shade temperature below 32 degrees F., 2 (2); of gale 8 (6). Total rainfall, 2.69 inches on 11 days (1.22); greatest fall, 66 points on 18th (27).
Total sunshine, 210.4 hours (195.1); daily average, 6.8; sunniest days 22nd and 23rd. 13 hours (12.4): wind run 2467 miles (2732); average, 79.6.
