USEFUL HINTS
MAKE A NOTE OF THESE. Put pepper into a gauze-topped small talcum powder bottle for cooking uses. It is then difficult to over-season anything you cook. When making a passionfruit sago add the passionfruit seeds and pulp before cooking. Cooking the fruit in the sago brings out its full flavour. If eggs are preserved in vaseline they will keep fresh for a long time. Cracked eggs may be also placed in vaseline, for vaseline closes all cracks and pores. The contents of a sixpenny jar will cover two hundred eggs. The loud ticking of an alarm clock can be deadened by standing the clock on a cork mat. Do not scrape out passionfruit pulp with a spoon; use a lemon, squeezer. When breadcrumbs are needed for a pudding containing milk, do not waste time crumbling bread, but put chunks of it into a saucepan with the milk, bring to the boil and whip smartly with a fork. This is quicker, and the result is the same.
