WELFARE LEAGUE

MEETING IN MASTERTON. NEED FOR CLOTHING AND SHOES. A well attended meeting of the Women’s National Welfare League was held yesterday afternoon in the Midland Hotel. Reports were submitted on visits to the Masterton Hospital and Buchanan Home, and on the welfare work carried out during the month. The trip made to the Buchanan Home was a most enjoyable and successful one. Items were given by Mrs Coleman, Misses Nina Boddington and Douglas, and were greatly appreciated by the old people. , The visitors were afterwards entertained at afternoon tea by the Matron. League members hope tp be able to arrange the Christmas visit to be paid on Tuesday, December 17.

Visitors for this month to the Masterton Hospital will include Mrs Drummond, Miss Cameron and Miss Beiliss. As in past years Mrs Drummond and Mrs Fletcher will place flowers on the soldiers’ memorial on Armistice Day, November 11.

After a brief discussion members expressed their approval of the recommendation by the Wellington Education Board that the Lord's Prayer should be recited daily in primary schools before the commencement of lessons.

It was decided to convey the sympathy of the League to Mrs F. Reynolds in the loss of her brother, Mr J. S. Hiddleston.

Mrs McKenzie reported that there was urgent need for clothing and shoes or sandals for children between the ages of 2 and 14 years. Those having suitable articles of apparel are requested to ring Mrs A. W. McKenzie. The last meeting of the year will be held on December 6 when arrangements for Christmas welfare work will be completed. An address will be given. and it is hoped that there will be a full attendance of members.
