NEW GROUND BROKEN

R.A.F. ATTACK ON NAPLES OIL PLANT AND RAILWAY DAMAGED. BATTERY EFFECTIVELY SILENCED (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Dav, 11.20 a.m.) RUGBY, November 1. Last night's attack on Naples was the first occasion which the R.A.F. aircraft have been, in action over Southern Italy. Three targets were selected in the raids, which lasted for three-quart-ers of an hour. The first aircraft concentrated on an oil refinery and groups of storage tanks, where the dropping of heavy bombs was followed by fires and many explosions. The second attack was on the station and railway junction of Naples. During this raid, the aircraft flew over the city less than 2,000 feet up.

In the third attack, anti-aircraft batteries and searchlights were bombed, one battery being effectively silenced.
