MAJOR ATTACK

LAUNCHED BY ITALIANS Guns Thundering in Mountain Pass SALONIKA AS- ULTIMATE OBJECTIVE GREEKS OFFERING STRONG RESISTANCE (By Telegraph.—Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 11.35 a.m.) LONDON, November 1. It is reported from Belgrade that' the Italians today launched a major attack through the ancient pass from Korea to Florina, with a view to securing possession of a network of roads facilitating the attainment of their ultimate objective of Salonika. The Italians are supported by heavy mountain artillery and planes and the thunder of the guns is described as incessant. The Greeks, operating from high strategic positions point-blank against the mountain road, are doing their utmost to check the advance. It is believed that the Italians, will pay a high price if they succeed in pushing through to Florina. > It is reported, without confirmation, from Greek sources that British bombers accompanied a few Greek planes, operating from a Greek base, and bombed Italian and* Albanian ports. An Italian report says the Italians are 17 miles from Janina. The Stefani agency says the Italians have advanced 34 miles from the Albanian border and have captured the sub-prefec-ture of Seilati, containing 79 villages and 35,000 inhabitants.
