Royal Chief. So far Royal Chief has done everything right in his preparation for the New Zealand Cup. and he has a great chance of emulating the feat of Nightmarch, which carried Ost. 61b. successfully at Riccarton in 1930. There will not be a fitter horse in the race, and on his running in the Wellington Handicap on the first day the others in the New Zealand Cup will have a mansized job to defeat him. A Promising Galloper. Sir Amyas probably will contest the hack events at the New Zealand Cup meeting. He is one of the most promising gallopers seen out for some time. A Good Combination. An Auckland writer says it is a long way to the Auckland Cup and Railway Handicap double, but a good combination would appear to be Proud Fox in the Cup and Sir Beau in the Railway. Globe Trotter's Ability. The Safari horse Globe Trotter has done well under Billy Dwyer’s care and his good race in the Shorts Handicap at Trantham suggests that he should soon be found among the winners. Globe Trotter has shown ability up to a mile and the nine furlongs Riccarton Handicap may not be beyond him.
A Consistent Performer. There are few more consistent performers than Little Robin and, while the New Zealand Cup appears to be beyond his capabilities, the form shown by the Resinous gelding at Trentham brings him before notice as likely io pay his way at the Cup meeting. Little Robin has put up some of his best performances at Riccarton. Talenfa. Talenta ran well in the Trial Stakes at Trentham and. while she seems tc be overshadowed by Belle Cane, the Tiderace filly will doubtless appeal tc place-betters in the Spring Plate and New Zealand Oaks at Riccarton.
