ACCEPTED WITH REGRET
4 □R. A. R. THORNE'S RESIGNATION. MEDICAL SUPERINTENDENT AT WELLINGTON. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The resignation of its Medical Superintendent, Dr. A. ,R. Thorne, was accepted with regret by the Wellington Hospital Board last night. The chairman, Mr F. Castle, said Dr. Thorne was appointed six years ago, with a three years’ guarantee of service, and the appointment was renewed. Dr. Thorne wrote last week that his contract terminated on November 12 and that his present state of health was such that he could not continue much longer in the position. Mr Castle mentioned that some months ago Dr. Thorne had a month’s holiday in the north and came back much better in health,, but recently he had said that his health had not improved as much as he had hoped and that he would have to throw up his position. Mr Castle moved that the resignation be received with regret, and that the board make suitable arrangements to release Dr. Thorne at an early date. The middle of December would suit all parties. Mr Castle said Dr. Thorne had carried out his duties’ with great zeal. He had a great deal to carry on under difficult conditions, particularly since the Trentham Camp had been established and in the later stages he had been doing clinical work, which was not part of his duties, but owing to the number of soldier patients he had to undertake it.
