AFFAIR OF OUTPOSTS
IN FRONTIER REGIONS SECRECY AS TO BRITISH PLANS. \ ENEMY KEPT GUESSING. (By Telegraph—Press Assoeiaiton—Copyright) I LONDON, October 31. It was learned on good authority in London today that the fighting in Greece is an affair of outposts in the frontier regions. The Italian advance along the Adriatic end of the frontier between Albania and Greece seems to be its strangest effort, but no Greek defensive lines have been reached in this area yet. Further inland the fighting is confined to artillery duels. On the Greek-Albanian frontier it is reported that the Greeks captured an Italian outpost Engagements between outposts are also reported at Florina. There, is no information concerning landings of British troops. Britain’s strategic moves to assist Greece are being carried on in the strictest secrecy, ims has led to a peculiar conflict in the German reports. These one moment suggest that Britain is about to abandon Greece, and the next allege that British troops have landed on Greek soil. Britain has no intention of revealing her plans to the enemy, but the Greek Government is in full possession of the facts. In the meantime German propaganda is endeavouring to patch up a peace between Greece and Italy. The object is obviously to trick the Greeks into abandoning resistance by some illusory promises, but the Greeks appear fully aware of the value of German promises. |
