LAVAL & THE AXIS

CURRENT & IMPENDING NEGOTIATIONS USE OF FRENCH WARSHIPS AGAINST BRITAIN. ■ ALLEGEDLY IN PROSPECT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.55 a.m.) LONDON. October 29. The Associated Press of Great Britain's Rome correspondent states that Count Ciano is expected to open negotiations with M. Laval in a few days' time and that Signor Mussolini may later meet Marshal Petain. Signor Ansaldo, in an article in the “Telegrafo,” says concrete possibilities apparently were worked out during Herr Hitler's conference with M. Laval and Marshal Petain in France, involving a division of the African Colonies with Spain. Italian sources indicated that Herr Hitler obtained Signor Mussolini's agreement for the final terms of the French settlement, making the French Navy available for use against Britain.
