MAN POWER

MEETING OF MASTERTON COMMITTEE APPEALS AGAINST SERVICE IN TERRITORIALS MANY CASES DISPOSED OF The sitting of the Masterton Man Power Committee was concluded yesterday afternoon, the chairman, Mr. T. Jordan, presiding. There were also present Messrs. L. T. Daniell and F. Cole. An application by Mr. H. G. Williams to have a farm worker, G. A. Fisher exempted on the grounds that he was in a key position was adjourned until May 31. 1941. Ernest James Jenkins was granted exemption until May 31, 1941. Mr, R. R. Burridge who appeared for the firm of Jenkins Bros., stressed the fact that the applicant was a key man and had had eight years’ Territorial service. Borthwick and Sons applied for the exemption of a stock buyer, P. Lowry on the grounds of public service. In view of the firm’s good record for enlistments it was decided to adjourn the appeal until May 31, 1941. An application by Long and Son to have E. W- Colban exempted temporarily was dismissed, but the applicant would not be called up before December 31, 1940. An appeal by the Masterton .Dairy Company to have an employee, J. H. Wright, exempted was dismissed, the man to be called up afteh December 31. An appeal for total 7 exemption from service for a farm hand, R. H. Fawcett, was not allowed, but applicant would not be liable for service before January 1.
