WAIRARAPA SPRING SHOW

Opened in Beautiful Weather GOOD RANGE OF QUALITY STOCK CHAMPIONSHIP AND OTHER AWARDS Stock of splendid quality, varied displays of farm implements and motor vehicles, interesting ring competitions and a good array of sideshows combine to make the sixty-fourth annual Show of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. & A. Society, which opened at Carterton today, well up to the high standard usually associated with this progressive association of community enterprise. A warm sunny day brightened the freshened appearance of the showgrounds after the recent rain and it is not surprising to find show officials and others seeing in the congenial conditions-‘happy, confidence in the success of this year’s Show, notwithstanding rumblings of war overseas and petrol restrictions within their country. Although entries this year do not reach last year’s total, most of the principal breeds of stock are well represented, while, what is most important of all, the quality is right up to the mark. Today, the judges of the various stock and other classes have a full day’s work to adjudicate in. their respective sections, and from early in the morning they were fully occupied in their important task. This evening this night session promises to be as .popular as ever, the principal attractions being national dancing and a treasure hunt for the children. Tomorrow, People’s Day, the culminating point of which will be the grand parade of stock, commencing at 2.30 p.m., will draw people from all parts of the district to enjoy all the fun of the fair as a welcome relief in days of momentous titlings.
