SHIPYARDS BOMBED
HEAVY & SUCCESSFUL BRITISH ATTACKS ON NAVAL AND OTHER BASES. ONE AIRCRAFT MISSING. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.52 a.m.) RUGBY, October 29. An Air Ministry communique states: “German shipyards were the main objectives of our bomber forces last night. Heavy and successful attacks were made on Kiel, Wilhelmshaven, Bremen, Hamburg, Emden and Cuxhaven. Shipping in Boulogne harbour was also attacked and fires were started in oil plants at Hamburg, Cologne and Homburg. “Other strong forces of our aircraft bombed railway centres at Krefeld, Cologne, Coblenz and Mannheim; also nineteen aerodromes in Germany and German-occupied territories and numerous anti-aircraft batteries. One of our aircraft is missing.” BOMB DAMAGE IN LONDON & MIDLANDS. FIRES BROUGHT SPEEDILY UNDER CONTROL. (Received This Day, 9.0 a.m.) LONDON, October 29. An Air Ministry communique states: “There was enemy activity over a number of districts last night, but attacks were directed mainly against London, and the Midlands. The attacks diminished in intensity before midnight. Shops, houses and other buildings were damaged in London and a few fires broke out, but these were quickly under control. Some people were killed. A large number of incendiary bombs dropped on a Midland town caused many fires, mainly in shops, but all were soon under control.”
