WAIRARAPA BULLS. SHIPPED TO AUSTRALIA. In addition to the imported stud bull Hodgson’s Gem which they have shipped to Tasmania on account of Mr. G. F. Moore, of Bushy Park. Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Dtd., report that they have also shipped to Victoria five good types of Hereford bulls three of which were bred by Messrs. Tynan Bros., Te Anga, King Country, and two by Mr. J. M. James, Wangaehu, Masterton. The two selected from the Wangaehu stud of Mr. J. M. James are sired by his two imported sires Choice Domino Gem and Polled Bullion Success. These bulls are of extra good quality, and are very notable for their excellent coats and skins. Mr. James’s herd is an old established one and these two high class representatives from it m'e certain f give a good account of themselves on arrival in Australia.
I Two outstanding yearling Hereford I bulls have recently been sold on account of'the Waiorongomai breeder I Mi. J. R. Matthews, both going to the i South Island. One of these is an outstanding son of the imported sire Chaling Domino in Waio Domino Ist. This bull is a magnificently developed type, being extra thick and deeply fleshed. He is a very level, well balanced bull who should develop into an exceptionally good sire. Chaling Domino, who ! is considered to be one of the best individuals of the Polled breed imported into this part of the world, was Champion at the Manawatu Show on his first appearance in New Zealand. He was taken straight out of quarantine to Palmerston North. There he met and defeated all the outstanding winners of the year, including the season’s Royal Champion. Waio Duchess Stan Ist, the dam of this high-class bull, which was purchased by Messrs. Wright. Stephenson and Co., Ltd., on behalf of the Canterbury breeder, Mr. T. B. Morten, Ahuriri, Tai Tapu, was sired by Mr. Matthews’s other successful imported sire, High Stanway Ist, while she comes from the noted Duchess tribe originally developed in the Mctu-ra stud. In addition to Chaling Domino and High Stanway Ist, Waiorcngomai stud also now has as one of its sires the famous old imported bull. High Stanway, who was an undefeated Championship winner, in America. His two sons brought to New Zealand have both bred exceptionally well. This bull himself is now 11 years old, but is still remarkably active.
The second yearling secured from the Waiorongomai stud was purchased for Mr. T. Davies, Ngaio Downs, Blenheim, and is the second Hereford bull that Mr. Davies has secured from Waiorongomai. This is a bull of outstanding quality with an excellent head, splendid top line and perfect balance. He is exceptionally well marked and is of great handling ability. He is an August yearling son of the noted sire and well-known champion bull. High Stanway Ist, while his dam, Waiorongomai Cowslip sth, is a splendid daughter of Santos Junior, the first imported sire used at Waiorongomai. The dam. which comes from another of the Motu-ra families, is doubly descended from the great English importation, Rufus. Both those bulls are of the most desirable type that should ensure their proving outstanding successes as stud sires.
